Magnetic Separation Equipment

Disc Magnetic Separator

The disc magnetic separator recovers paramagnetic minerals such as ilmenite, monazite, or wolframite from dry granular feeds. It operates after size reduction and classification, producing a magnetic concentrate and a non-magnetic tailing in a single pass.

Technical parameters

Multiple disc stages improve grade or recovery by allowing re-treatment of the intermediate product. The machine is most common in laboratory, pilot, or small-tonnage production circuits.

Model codes pair disc diameter with disc count, as in CP-80/4. Larger diameter discs handle higher volumes. More discs increase residence time and improve recovery at a given throughput. Slot width sets the gap between disc and feed belt, controlling the magnetic field strength at the pickup point.

Parameter boundary

Standard-model catalogue figures. Actual capacity, power draw and wear life shift with ore properties, feed gradation and circuit conditions. Use them to shortlist, then confirm the duty by testwork, flowsheet calculation and a written confirmation from the manufacturer.

What decides the selection

Confirm the mineralogy, particle size distribution, and moisture content of the feed. Define the required magnetic field strength and the acceptable loss of non-magnetics to the magnetic fraction. A detailed mineralogical report helps the manufacturer recommend disc diameter, disc count, and slot width.

  • Specific magnetic susceptibility of the mineral
  • Field strength and gradient
  • Particle size
  • Dry or wet circuit
  • Throughput and feed density
  • Risk of magnetic medium blockage
  • Product quality target
